Entrepreneurship has become a strong economic change agent, innovation, and job creator in the developing world. In the Assam scenario, where the percentage of educated youths is high, with lack of job prospects, entrepreneurial competency is the way forward to self-sufficiency and all-inclusive development. This study aims at looking into how much entrepreneurial skills, attitudes and knowledge can empower young graduates and professionals to establish and run successful business ventures. The study aims at determining the main entrepreneurial competencies, including opportunity recognition, risk-taking ability, creativity, problem-solving, leadership, and decision-making, that are needed in youth entrepreneurship. It also examines the effect of formal education, government programs, skill development programmes and local socio economic situations on the entrepreneurial orientation of the educated youths in Assam. Under the mixed-method research design, data are obtained by means of structured questionnaires and in-depth interviews of the chosen respondents in the various districts of Assam. The analysis is to point out the strengths and the gaps present in the current entrepreneurial ecosystems such as access to finance, mentorship, market linkages. The study indicates that though the youth in Assam are highly educated and motivated they do not have appropriate exposure, risk management, and institutional support to translate the ideas into the form of enterprises. The research will also suggest measures on how entrepreneurship training can be incorporated into institutions of higher learning and ways of enhancing partnership between the academic institutions, industry and government organizations. With the knowledge of how entrepreneurial competency empowers the educated youths, this study hopes to make a contribution to the policy frameworks that facilitate innovation, jobs and sustainable economic development in Assam. Young entrepreneurship should not only be empowered as an economical choice, but a crucial move towards a stronger and more independent society.
