Abstract

Quality of work life is becoming an increasingly popular concept in recent times. It basically talks about the methods in which an organisation can ensure the holistic well-being of an employee instead of just focusing on work-related aspects. The quality of personal life is always reflected in professional life and vice versa. Now a day to retain the employees in the organisation providing QWL is the key factor. Job stress in an organisation has a profound impact on performance of employees and has extensive practical and economic consequences. Stress can lead to lack of commitment to the corporation, poor productivity, and even leaving the company; all of which are of serious concern to management. Now companies have found "the importance of supportive work-life policies and practices, such as flexible work arrangements, good working environment, supervisory support, recognition and motivation, employees exhibit more positive work outcomes, such as job satisfaction, commitment to employer, and retention, as well as more positive life outcomes, such as less interference between job and family life, less negative spill over from job to home, greater life satisfaction, and better mental health." This study attempts to explore the relationship between QWL and Stress. The study found that there is significant negative relationship between stress and quality of work life. The negative relationship between stress and quality of work life indicates that, as sales representatives’ experience increasing work stress results in decrease in their quality of work life.
